Avast Antivirus is one of the best antivirus software for Windows users. But, there are a few annoying things that drives me insane. There is the annoying pop up that comes from the task manager, and that annoying voice over that says “ Avast! Antivirus has been updated.”
There are other annoyances, that it ask you to do, such as to download and install additional bloatware, that we probably don’t really need. Does this also annoy you? Today I’d like to show you a way on how to Disable some of these feature, so it will not annoy you again.
1. Disable Avast! Antivirus Sounds
The 1st problem of avast!, is that each Avast! performs a system check for viruses, there is an audio notification stating that virus definitions are updated. You can choose to either disable sound notifications, or even voice over sounds. click on the avast! icon in the task manager. Once the software loads, click on the settings icon as shown.
Disabling Voice Over Sounds
Then, on the next screen, select appearance.
Then, if you wish to disable voice over, uncheck the box under voice over settings “Use Voice over sounds (when available)”
Once you have disabled the icon, click ok to save your settings.
Disabling Avast! Antivirus Sounds
The Next thing you probably have noticed in the appearance section, is the ability to choose which sounds to disable. You can enable or disable sounds completely, or you can enable or disable certain parts of an event. These can include:
- When a threat is detected
- When suspicious items are detected
- When potentially unwanted programs are detected
- When a scan is completed
- and When automatic updates are completed
If you wish to disable all these notifications, all you need to do is to uncheck the enable avast! sounds check box.
2. Disabling Grime Fighter Notification
You probably have noticed a pop up coming up, notifying you of potential unwanted system add-on you have on your pc. This is not really necessary software to have on your pc, and there is a way to disable this annoying notification error.
1. On the main software program, go to the tools section of Avast!, then select customize setting.
2. Under the Grime Fighter section, unselect the checkbox, that says “Always test this computer for Grime”
Press ok to save your changes.
3. Antivirus update Notification
The last thing that annoys me is the update notification. I usually select the option to have the software automatically update virus definitions. To do this, go to the update tab.
Under Program Settings you can see a list of items to choose from. Select the radio button where it says “Automatic Update” to have Avast! automatically update settings for you, without nagging you that an update is available. Then press OK to save the changes.
