If you have a home network such as Windows Server Essentials 2012 and you discover its not showing up in your Network Map (My Network Places), its really easy to get it going again.
Here is my simple walk through guide on how to turn on computer browser services in windows server essentials
I had visited a client recently who has Windows Server Essentials installed on their network. They use it for sharing files on their windows home network. However, they were not able to see the computer name in the network map, like the other computer names on the network.
It’s really easy to get this going. The terminology Microsoft uses to add this to network map is called computer browser services.
Computer Browser service is the mechanism that collects and distributes the list of workgroups and domains and the servers within them. The list displays in the Microsoft Windows Network window and related windows in My Network Places. – Google search results
Usually in the client side of computers, Microsoft has turned the feature on, but in the Server side of things they decided to disable this feature. Some people like to have it switch on, so they can easily manage things straight from the Network Map or My Network Places.
