Computer Hints and Tip of the Day: Changing Control Panel to Category View in Windows 8

By Default, Windows 8 Does not allow you to view your control panel in Category view.  This can be annoying for IT professionals and enthusiasts, who like the traditional Category View of the Microsoft Windows Control Panel.

Today I’d like to show you, how to change control panel category view windows 8

Usually when we start the control panel we get something like shown below.

The solution to get back the category view, we can use a simple free program called classic shell this will allow you to view the control panel category view windows 8.

I have been using classic shell ever since I installed Windows 8.  The reason why, is that like most people I did not like the change of the user interface.  With the start menu gone also, classic shell makes it easier to tweak windows the way that You want it.

Setting Control Panel as a link

Another thing I don’t like by default is that control panel content is shown as a menu, when you click on it in the start bar.  So I like to have the control panel as a link on the start menu. You can easily tweak it with classic shell.

Step 1: open classic start menu setting.

Step 2: Click on Customize Start menu tab.

Step 3: Where it says “Control Panel” in the display settings, select “Display as a link” as shown below. Then press ok.

That’s it, you now have successfully tweaked Windows 8. Now you should be able to view control panel category view windows 8.
