In the last couple of days I Installed Microsoft Windows 8.1, which is the latest Operating System at time of writing this tutorial. I did not like the new charms menu at all. It has appeared that Microsoft wanted to redesign the user interface, and the classic Windows 7 Style Start Menu was missing. I know a lot of others miss the old classic start menu, but it’s really easy to get old start menu back windows 8.1 with a simple third party app called Classic Shell.
Classic Shell App
The classic shell app is an open source software, it allows users to customize the User Interface of Microsoft Windows Operating system.
Install Classic Shell App
Step 2: Go to the folder you downloaded the software to. Run the setup wizard from your PC.
Step 3: Follow the setup wizard
Running Classic Shell
Step 1: Start the Charm menu, and enter the search term “ Classic Start Menu Settings”
Step 2: Select “Classic Start Menu Settings” in the list of apps as shown below
Using the Classic Shell App
Step 1: Once you have opened the classic start menu app, the interface appears as shown below. In this example we are going to select “Windows 7 Style” This option will get the start menu back for your windows 8.1 operating system.
Step 2: Once you select the windows 7 style, Press the OK Button.
Step 3: You may need to restart your PC.
Step 4: Test to see that it’s working by clicking on the start icon.
As you can see, the classic start menu should now be back in windows 8.1.
