Microsoft’s Online Storage skydrive renamed to onedrive

Overview

It’s official Skydrive renamed to Onedrive.  For those of you who use SkyDrive, Microsoft’s online Cloud storage, Microsoft Skydrive has been renamed to one drive.

It’s been rumored on PC World and other sources, that Microsoft had to change it’s name due to some dispute with BSkyB which is a British Sky Broadcasting Service.  It looks as though Microsoft will be relaunching its online storage service with some new and unique features.

It hasn’t been the first for Microsoft with “name” problems, When the company released Windows 8, features such as the Metro interface, Microsoft had to change the “Metro” name to something else also.

What will happen to us the customers?

Nothing much will change except the name, in the long run and Microsoft will probably just roll out new updates for it’s new brand when the service has been relaunched.

 When will it be launched?

Microsoft has not stated when the product will be launched yet, but it is set to be launched in the near future.
